    Abstract:

    The variational assimilation of initial fields in numerical weather prediction is a problem of nonlinear optimization.To solve this problem,this paper presents a method based on the evolution direction genetic algorithm(EDGA).Numerical simulation using the ideal initial field shows that the method is fairly effective.
