During the heavy rain of 5-8 June, 1978 over South China a middle lower level jet was formed along the coast where the storm occurred. Budget analysis is made of kinetic energy and available potential energy over the area in which the jet stream appeared. The results show that kinetic energy of the jet originated from conversion of effective potential energy and from the subgrid-to-grid-scale kinetic energy trans formation as well.
