Proposed are a set of new regional flood/drought indices and standards of grading their severity whereby 1951-2000 summer wet/dry events are investigated for North China.It is indicated that the new indices in comparison with others are well indicative of the severity and extent of flood/drought events and of more objective classification of them,which is therefore quite applicable to an extended area.
