Abstract:Based on Arctic 1°×1° sea ice area index,500hPa height,SLP and China 160 station temperature data, the relationship between the interannual variation of Davis Straits sea ice and atmospheric circulation and east Asia climate is discussed by statistical methods. Results show that the interannual variation of sea ice extent over the Davis Straits is closely associated with that of the WA and EU teleconnection patterns and the winter monsoon intensity over East Asia. When the heavy sea ice prevails in the key region, the WA teleconnection pattern is found at 500hPa over the North AtlanticDavis StraitsWest Europe with positive 500hPa height anomalies over east America, and negative over the NE of AmericaGreenland, and the EU teleconnection pattern is found over the Europe Asia with positive 500hPa height anomalies over the Baikal, the East Baikal, and West Europe and winter Siberia High is weakened. Therefore, the winter monsoon over east Asia will be weakened and the temperature over NE, NW and North of China will be warmed. When light sea ice occurs in the region, the results will be opposite.
